People Tips From A Seasoned Vet
I had the opportunity recently to help put together a pretty juicy deal for a start up that every American with a dog will join. I wish I could say more, but my NDA forbids it. It’s a great project though and I’m thrilled to have been a part of it. My part in the deal involved setting the entrepreneur up with a potential investor.
The entrepreneur in questions has put together several other large ventures and really knows what he is doing. He asked me, "Webster, what a you going to say to this guy?" I started going in to as much detail as I could without breaking my NDA. He then stopped me and gave this analogy:
"Webster, if come and tell you that I want to introduce you to a beautiful, 5′10″, brown haired girl I may be shooting myself in the foot. You may like short girls with blonde hair. All I’m going to say is that when I met this great girl I thought about you and I think you ought to meet her.”
The actual story was longer, but you get the point. Oh and by the way, it worked like a charm. If your going to do a big introduction just say, “I am working on this great project, and it made me think about you.” You should take a look at this thing. From that point on the target creates their own reality with the questions they ask you about the project, and the vision of the wonderful project that made someone think of them. Try it!
