Greatest Linkbuilding Tool Ever

It is hard to imaging for some. With all of this Web 2.0, mass collaboration technology how can the greatest linkbuilding tool of all-time have been built over a hundred years ago? The telephone isn't flashy, stylish or cutting edge, but dammit it works.

What About Digg and Social Networking?

Using the telephone is not as glamorous as making the homepage of Digg or Netscape, but it works. Besides, there are some that say Google discounts some of the links coming from a home page Digg story. This is understandable since many of these links will be off-topic low authority links. I’m not saying that Digg doesn’t work. It’s a powerful tool, but there are some important links that you won’t obtain through a Digg story. There are some links that can only be gathered by phone.

What About E-mail?

E-mail isn’t bad and often targets many the same links as the phone does, but with a lower success rate. It can be used for some links, but if you find a link that would really help your site I recommend the phone. In this age of automated link requests nothing says “I’m not spam” like the human voice.

Unique Link Profiles

The old link maxim is this: the harder a link is to get, the better it is. There are a lot of webmasters and web marketers that just aren’t willing to pick up the phone. This may be because it seems awkward or because their site isn’t that great. This leaves a nice pocket of links out their only accessible by phone and these are links most people will not have. These links will help a site build a unique link profile that most sites don’t have.

Keep gunning for the Digg homepage, keep building embed pages and sending some e-mails, but always keep the telephone as a weapon in your linkbuilding arsenal.
