My 1st Class Ticket on The Google Buzz Bandwagon
I hate bandwagons. In fact, the second I see a bandwagon I normally run the other way as fast as possible. I have never completely bought into Twitter as a good marketing tool. I don't think SEO is dead, and I refused to buy anything made by Apple years ago.
However, I can't ignore the strategic wizardry of Google's most recent move. Google just stuck its &$*# in the social media mash potatoes, and there's nothing anyone can do about it. This is serious business. I'm making my prediction right now that Google Buzz will take over Twitter. Google Buzz has what Twitter was missing. A compelling reason for people that aren't trying to pimp themselves out all the time to try it. Google Buzz will introduce micro blogging to millions of new people. Can you hear that? It's 50,000 soccer moms thinking, "hmmm...what's that Buzz link thingy?...click"
And there you have it. Social media services are all about network effects. If you've got users, you've got tremendous momentum. Just look at Facebook. Eight percent of their users are calling for Mark Zuckerberg's head, but they can't stop using his site.
From this point on it will be a slow bleed. Google Buzz will lean on their competitors just like they do with other products. They take away a few extra clicks and rely on your laziness to set in. Do you really want to open your Tweetdeck or head over to Twitter when Google Buzz is right there? Well, you might, but the other 300 million Americans don't.
It's almost nice to finally find a bandwagon worth jumping on.

correction: Do you really want to open your email when Twitter is right there?
Like I said, you might, but do you really think everyone else will reject email for Twitter?
I don't think email and Twitter are 'compatible' like that, but I'm pointing out that your reason to appreciate Buzz is the precise reason I'm not happy with it. I don't want to keep my email open all day, and I don't.
Gotcha. Fair enough.
Nice take on buzz. At this point 95% of my life is through google so it'd be nice if microblogging could be too.
I think twitter will stay strong among non-gmail users and those who hate to waste their 100k strong "following" but it'll be interesting to see how this shakes out.
Can you think of any functionality that twitter has which would keep people coming back?
I haven't seen anybody "reBuzz" anything yet, but they do have the Like feature which might actually be better. Other than that, there isn't a ton of difference.
Too true, its been almost a year since I opened up a twitter account and 2 months since I started using to aggressively. Now I'm on Buzz thinking, man this is kinda nice. My only fault with buzz is that (and correct me please if I'm wrong) gmail members only. I got a few friends who told me they refuse to jump on the buzz band wagon who also have yahoo or msn accounts. But I imagine once twitter dies out they'll come around.
That certainly is a limitation. I wonder if Google will release it to everyone at some point or if they will force people in to Gmail in order to use it. Time will tell.
